Mavericks Contest oppening Cerimony - 10th, 2009

It started out as a beautiful NorCal winter day, with high clouds and cold sunshine and a couple guys out on the reef on the super low tide. But as it happens around these parts, the clouds rolled in and the wind picked up and made for a pretty chilly ceremony.

After Jeff Clark introduced each surfer to the crowd (which was made up of press, a few curious onlookers and alternates), everyone paddled out to form the ceremonial circle and splashing.
